THE BIG PICTURE

1. How to Build an Audience Quickly

Short answer: you can't.

Building an audience takes time

But a quick hack is to borrow one by offering value inside a community

The first time I presold a live cohort-based course was on SmallBets.com

For months, I showed up, answered questions, and helped people out.

Only after that did I pitch and ask if anyone wanted to join a course about creating and selling a Udemy course. Around 40 people signed up for that first cohort.

If I had just posted my offer without ever helping anyone, I doubt many would have cared.

WORDS I LIKE

2. A Full Book on One Page

Most readers don’t have a lot of time to go through an endless manuscript.

They want answers fast, without sorting through a pile of fluff.

So write shorter books.

How short?

As short as they need to be.

For example, I once wrote a book called This Book is One Page Long just to prove a point.

Here’s the entire book if you want to read it.

The book has over 60 positive reviews and still sells a few copies from time to time. So get that book out there.

PODCAST INTERVIEW

4. How Claudine Chi Wrote her 365-Day Journal

In the latest episode of Writer on the Side, I interview Claudine Chi, a high-performance mindset coach, former 16-time karate champion, and creator of The Athlete’s Ultimate Self-Belief Journal (an awesome resource if you want to build unstoppable self-belief - highly recommended!).

Claudine explains how she turned her coaching system into a 365-day interactive journal that helps people strengthen confidence and focus in just a few minutes a day.

ONE-MINUTE HACKS

5. A Quick Side Gig Hack You Can Apply Today

Repurpose your content to save time

If you’re worried about sounding repetitive, here are four reasons to think again:

  1. People like to consume in different ways (listening vs. reading)

  2. People forget over time (reminders help)

  3. People don’t mind re-consuming the same content (many re-read books & re-watch movies)

  4. Repeating your message is a good thing (keeps you on brand)

I repurpose everything, and it’s helped me build several products on the side.
